LAN Is the Only Non-U.S. Airline Recognized in LOGO`s TripOut Gay Travel Awards

MIAMI, September 23, 2010 – LAN Airlines is proud to announce it was nominated for “Best Airline” by LOGO, the gay and lesbian network owned by MTV Networks. An international panel of travel journalists and gay travel experts compiled the list for LOGO’s second annual “TripOut Gay Travel Awards.”  American Airlines, Delta, Jet Blue, Southwest and Virgin America were also nominated.

LAN is thrilled to be nominated for this award and recognized by the gay and lesbian community,” said Pablo Yunis, Vice President of North America and the Caribbean for LAN Airlines. “It is an honor to be the only non-U.S. airline nominated in this category. LAN prides itself on the great diversity of our staff, our customers, and above all the great destinations that we serve.”

LAN and its affiliate carriers are South America’s leading international airline, offering award-winning service to and within South America from New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami and Toronto.  LAN provides extensive service to destinations in South America popular with LGBT travelers, including Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Santiago, Sao Paulo and a number of other destinations.

In 2009, LAN became the first Latin American airline to develop an advertising campaign specifically targeting the LGBT community. The campaign highlighted the importance of diversity and showcased South America’s diversity.  LAN is a proud sponsor of the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association (IGLTA) and the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC).  LAN Airlines was also the official sponsor of San Francisco Pride in 2010, the largest gay pride celebration in the United States.

"LAN is a terrific airline for lesbian and gay travelers," said Ed Salvato, one travel expert who participated in the "TripOut Gay Travel Awards" nomination process. "With LGBT life blossoming throughout Latin America, it's wonderful for LGBT travelers to have a gay-friendly South American airline connecting the hottest destinations in the region."

Travelers can vote for their favorite airline until October 18, 2010. To vote for LAN Airlines visit:  http://www.tripoutgaytravel.com/vote/?question=airline.
