April 10, 2009-- Two months before the Presidential election, Jason Briggs, the son of Utah Senator Jonathon Briggs and the grandson of Elder Alma Briggs an Apostle of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, is executed in his favorite swanky hotel room in downtown Salt Lake City. The murder of Jason Briggs, who comes from such a high profile Mormon family, will expose the Stallion Warriors. An intelligent, well organized group of Gay men who will do whatever it takes to protect the Mormon Church and the Countries in which their members reside.
Now, the clean puritanical city is the setting for Brian D. Beckstead’s new thriller novel, The Stallion Warriors, being released in the fall of 2009.
Brian weaves his story of intrigue and suspense around the equally spectacular but mysterious backdrop of the Wasatch Mountains that drape the Salt Lake valley. Forcibly retired FBI agent Dax Trumane, inspired by a character from Brian’s original screenplay, begins looking into the execution of Jason Briggs the day he arrives in Salt Lake to vacation and visit with his dad and step mom. It’s an investigation he’s sure he can have wrapped up rather quickly considering his amazingly special abilities. But as he dives deeper into the case, the evidence becomes stranger, complex and extremely personal for Dax and more people are murdered-and when Dax realizes just how high the conspiracy reaches, not even his family or members of the Stallions or the leaders of the Mormon Church are safe until he finds the killer(s).
Although The Stallion Warriors is fictional, Brian uses real places, personal stories and events to support the plot and demonstrates his ability to draw readers into the story and keep them turning pages. Brian also creates a plot that is balanced which allows the reader to make up his/her mind about the characters and how they connect with one another.
“I have always been interested in the dialogue between the LDS Church and the Gay community,” Brian explained. “After doing countless hours of research, watching failed legislation for Gay marriage and/or civil unions because of the power of the Mormon Church, I knew this would make a perfect setting and premise for this book”.
